Reflection on Smart Board Activity: 1. This lesson was intended for fourth graders who are working on building their knowledge in physical sciences. For this project, I decided to choose the topic of energy which addresses the standard on of their physical sciences requirement. Standard one is that the students must be able master the skills and concepts that energy comes in many forms such as light, heat, sound, magnetic, chemical, and electrical. To achieve the goal for having the students learn standard one of their physical sciences requirement I decided to have short descriptions of each energy source with examples of ways we use the energy source. Next, I integrated two lesson/interactive games that involved a circuit (example of electrical energy) and the other on heat’s effect on molecules. As for thinking skills, I wanted my students to be able to understand each energy source I wanted the students to understand what types of energy were renewable and know that energy can be used for fuel in transportation, manufacturing, and technology driven by energy. Also, I wanted my students to be able to talk about how we know that energy exists in its variable forms. 2. Standard Seven: Knowledge of Technology Targeted Standards Addressed for this assignment 7.1 Apply technology to the delivery of standards based instruction 7.2 Use technology to increase student achievement 7.3 Utilize technology to manage and communicate information 3. Out of all the other assignments, this one was one of my favorites. I really enjoyed researching a topic to meet the physical sciences requirement for 4th graders, it really gave me great insight as to the extent of information they are being exposed. Also, I think that it is really helpful that we can include links on our presentations so that we can just jump to certain slides. Along with the great links that this program has build in itself, I liked that there were premade interactive lessons. Having pre-made interactive lessons were helpful because they have a lot of information that is presented in a fun, more visual manner for my students. Some problems that I had with this assignment was figuring out how to place and move objects and text. Also, I had a lot of trouble getting the slides to move to places I wanted them in my presentation. Overall, I really enjoyed this assignment. It is essential that the teachers of the futures learn and utilize this type of presentation. This activity is great because it teaches, tests, and provides entertainment to the students. 4. The SMART Notebook software in a classroom setting is definitely a really great resource for teaching anything science. Also, this software would be great for teaching history and English. Teachers can have quizzes with their lesson plans on this software. The software would also be great when teachers are teaching students sounds and how to see and say words. 5. Now that I have spent a great deal of time using the SMART Notebook software, I feel very comfortable using these tools and I glad that this class/assignment was mandatory. Now that I have been exposed to such a great resource, it will be very difficult for me to create such integrated lesson plans without the helpful tools this software offers the teachers.
